white chocolate raspberry Quest

On April 1st I was delighted to read on the Quest Nutrition blog that they were Introducing Q-Logne - cologne scented like Quest bars!  Immediately I noticed the date - April Fool's Day - so I assumed it was a joke, but why not?  Is it so outrageous to want to smell like a Quest bar?

The article asked the question, and I quote:

"Let’s face it – who wouldn’t want to smell like a white chocolate raspberry Quest Bar??"

My thoughts EXACTLY.

I absolutely hate traditional perfume.  I'm a girly girl, but flower scents make me gag.  I prefer the aroma of fruit, candy or cookies.  When I hit Bath & Body Works I always buy scented lotions and soaps that smell like food.  Coconut, raspberry, vanilla, McIntosh apple??  Yum!  Philosophy's line of three-in-one body wash feature the delightful fragrance of cinnamon buns, vanilla birthday cake, berry lime martini, mango tango ice cream, gingerbread and raspberry sorbet.  Those flavors get my attention.

I repeat.  Why not smell like a Quest bar?

I'd totally dig smelling like white chocolate raspberry, a gooey chocolate brownie, or lemon cream pie.  I'd bet other ladies would too.  Maybe even guys, IDK.  Who wouldn't be attracted to the scent of cinnamon roll, strawberry cheesecake or cookies & cream?  It wouldn't be a turn-off for my man to smell like a banana nut muffin.  But I digress...

Are you listening Quest Nutrition??

Until the Quest company branches out into the skin care business, I've taken it upon myself to bring the beloved flavors of Quest to my shower and to my person.

So I present you with Quest Flavored Sugar Scrubs!

I chose to make sugar scrubs because:

  1. sugar scrubs are simple to make;
  2. sugar scrubs smell delicious;
  3. sugar scrubs are a great natural exfoliator;
  4. the oils in sugar scrubs keep your skin moisturized for hours; and
  5. using a sugar scrub in the shower is incredibly indulgent.

And perhaps the best reason of all is that you - or I - can dive into a tub of sugary-scented happiness with absolutely no caloric repercussions.

White Chocolate Raspberry Sugar Scrub

The first flavor I tried was white chocolate raspberry.  It is my absolute favorite Quest bar flavor and I eat one every single day.  For this scrub I used white sugar, a hint of vanilla, freeze dried raspberries which give the scrub natural scent and color, and yes, white chocolate.

I used organic natural cocoa butter and chopped it into tiny pieces.  The cocoa butter will melt on your body in the shower and leave your skin delicately scented and incredibly moisturized.  Best of all, this sugar scrub is totally edible!

Lemon Cream Pie Sugar Scrub  is citrusy and sweet and deliciously scented with tangy lemon essential oil, white sugar and fresh lemon peel.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Sugar Scrub probably was my favorite, which was a surprise.  I combined gooey brown sugar, white sugar, vanilla and used flakes of real dark chocolate.  Amazing!

An essential component of sugar scrubs is the oil.  I recommend using either coconut oil or sweet almond oil.  Sweet almond oil is formulated for use in body products and is very inexpensive.  (The best price I found for sweet almond oil was on Amazon.)

Coconut oil is a little more pricey, especially unrefined oil, but it is very moisturizing and it is my favorite.  If using unrefined coconut oil your sugar scrub will take on a slight coconut scent, while sweet almond oil is neutral.  Depending on the temperature in your home, a scrub made with coconut oil may solidify a little which is totally fine - it will warm and melt on your skin in the shower or bath. (I buy this big jar of virgin coconut oil on Amazon - it's way cheaper than the price at my grocery store.)

The sugar scrubs may be stored in small glass mason jars or plastic Tupperware-type containers.  Use your scrubs within a few days since they are totally natural and have no preservatives.

I buy my Quest Bars on Amazon now for the best deal.  Here are links to the bars inspiring these body scrubs:

And now for the recipes...

WHITE CHOCOLATE RASPBERRY SUGAR SCRUB

Ingredients: 1/4 cup freeze dried raspberries 1/2 cup granulated sugar 1 teaspoon vanilla 1/2 cup coconut oil or sweet almond oil 1 tablespoon cocoa butter, chopped into small pieces

Directions: Place freeze dried raspberries in blender or Magic Bullet and pulse until they reach a powdery consistency. Combine raspberry powder with sugar and vanilla in a bowl and add oil.  (If the coconut oil is solid, it will have to be liquified before mixing.  Just pop your jar in the microwave for a few seconds.)  Finally, stir in small pieces of cocoa butter.

LEMON CREAM PIE SUGAR SCRUB

Ingredients: 1/2 cup granulated sugar 1/4 cup coconut oil or sweet almond oil Lemon essential oil, approximately 1/4 teaspoon or as much as needed to get your desired level of scent Juice and zest of one lemon if desired.

Directions:  Place sugar in a bowl and combine with oil.  Add lemon essential oil and/or lemon juice.  Mix until completely combined.  Stir in lemon zest if desired.

Note:  If using lemon essential oil you don't need the juice and zest of the lemon.  It makes a prettier sugar scrub, but the essential oil will give you all the scent you need.

CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIE DOUGH SUGAR SCRUB

Ingredients: 1/2 cup brown sugar 1/2 cup white sugar 1 teaspoon vanilla 1/4 cup coconut or sweet almond oil 1/2 square dark chocolate - grated

Directions: Combine sugars in a small bowl and add vanilla and oil.  Stir until well combined.  Add chocolate shavings and mix.

Note:  Don't let the addition of chocolate scare you!  No, you don't want to use chocolate chips in your sugar scrubs, but chocolate shavings?  Yep.  Totally cool.  Just grate your chocolate or chop it very fine.

Do you like food-scented body products?  What's your favorite??
